ABSTRACT.  - Snow as a Risk Factor in the Hydrographical Basin of Tisa. Snow is a risk factor in all the regions of the temperate climate both by the huge quantities and the lack of it. The periods with abundant snowing affect the transport and communication activities, the supplying of the population and of the industrial, agricultural, forestry and touristic units. The lack of the snow layer is an inconvenient for agriculture and winter tourism. In the high mountains the avalanches can lead to catastrophes followed by material and ecological damages and losses of human lives. The greatest damages take place during the river floods which often are produced by the intensive snow melt. The study refers to the hydrological basin of Tisa where because of the various physical-geographic conditions the characteristics of the snow layer also have a great spatial variability. The hydrological regime of Tisa in the cold semester of the year is determined by the process of water releasing from the snow layer. Using the data from the meteorological stations there are analyzed the spatial and temporal characteristics and the modifications of the characteristics of the snow layer in accordance with global and regional climate change.
