ABSTRACT. - Anthropic risks in Borşa area (Maramureş County). Due to a mozaic of rocks,to a climate with oceanic influences, rising up to over 1 500 m alt., this area, wich lies between the Rodna and the Maramureş mountains, is affected by complex present-day processes. The tailings dam failures that occurred in January and March 2000, in Maramureş County northwest Romania, discharged contaminated water and sediment directly into river systems that drain into the Tisa River. The paper discusses some perimeters subjected the natural and the human environments (see the technological accident at Novăţ).
