ABSTRACT. Impact of hydropower constructions on the landforms dynamics. Romania ranks among countries with the greatest achievements in the field of dams in the world. Among the 80 membership countries of the ICOLD, Romania ranks the 19th as regards of „large dams” (246) and the 9th in Europe. The modification of river systems by man has been so great that nearly all of the rivers in the world, and probably the whole network of rivers in the temperate and subtropical areas are influenced by dams. Their effect is complex and may take place – some cases – along hundreds of kms over periods of hundreds or even thousands of years. Approaching a such problem must begin with the definition of the dam as a disturbing factor in the natural dynamics of a geomorphological fluvial system. Thus, there are two directions of analysis of the role of hydropower constructions on the landforms dynamics: by the influence of landforms on  dams, especially, on  reservoirs (here we have analysed the relationship between the sediment sources and the reservoir silting); by the influence of  dams on landforms (here we have analysed channel changes downstream from reservoirs).
