METEOROLOGICAL DROUGHT IN CENTRAL ROMANIAN PLAIN (BETWEEN OLT AND ARGES RIVERS). CASE STUDY: YEAR 2000

 ABSTRACT. Meteorological Drought in Central Romanian Plain (between Olt and Arges Rivers). Case study: year 2000. Drought phenomenon is affecting nowadays, very large areas all over the world. Southern and Eastern regions of Romania are considered more and more vulnerable to different kinds of drought: meteorological, hydrological or pedological. In Central Romanian Plain, 5 weather stations were considered in order to analyse the 2000 summer drought. In this context, meteorological drought occurred in 2000 was one of the most important drought event of the XXth century. It was generated by long periods of southern circulation or of blockage circulation. Precipitation amounts recorded in the month of August ranged between 9% and 26% of the multi-annual amount of the month, while temperature generally over passed 30°C, especially in the second half of July and in the first half of August 2000.
