ABSTRACT. – Droughtness of Hungary and Balkan Peninsula. This study presents some details from preliminary results of international drought analysis cooperation (DMCSEE). It gives a calculation method of PaDI, which is based on the drought index (PAI), used in Hungary, and simplicity allows it’s wider international usage. In most of the stations during the period between 1961-2009 the values of PaDI shows rising drought tendency. The significant droughty years in Hungary and Balkan are 1990, 1992, 1993, 2000, 2003 and 2007. PaDI values for these years and the 10% probability of occurrence reflects well the spatial strength differences. The most droughty areas in region are the South-Balkan (Greece, significant part of Macedonia and Bulgaria) and in addition the Carpathian basin.
