YEARS WITH DROUGHT IN CARPATHIAN BASIN DURING THE 18-20^TH CENTURIES

         ABSTRACT. - Years with Drought in Carpathian Basin During the 18-20^th Centuries. The present study gives an overview of drought phenomena in Carpatian Basin between years 1701 and 2000. Each year has been rated according to a 5 level scale. The author for the period of 18^th and first half of the 19^th century used climatic historical records, memoirs, but for the second half of the 19^th, and for the 20^th century arial means of drought index was used (PAI), an index developed by the author based on meteorolgical and hydrological measurements. The author concludes, that for the analyzed period there is no trend-like behaviour of the drought frequency and intensity, but they shows a salient cyclic oscillation. For 54 percent of the analyzed years drought did not occured, in  36 % of the period moderate droughts occured, and in the 10 % of years severe and extremely severe droughts occured.
