RISCURI POTENŢIALE ÎN ZONELE DE FRONTIERĂ
ABSTRACT. – Potential Riscs in Border Regions. The paper defines the status of the border and border regions, gives a classification of border conflicts based upon the international scientific literature. In the second part we try to present a concrete case study to explore the practical manifestation of the possible riscs appearing in the Romanian-Hungarian border region (namely in the framework of the Carpathian Euroregion), where in the future the military conflicts will be rouled out under the circumstances of the euro-atlantic integration of both states. The most threatening riscs can cause functional disputes between the two country, first of all because the ecological catastrophes, like the cyanid pollution which was happend on January 2000. The other category of problems are rather disturbances than riscs, having a functional character too, regarding the competition between the central urban settlements of the border region concerning the main functions of these cities, the real reconciliation between the Romanian and Hungarian population, the international migration and the delaying of the full EU-membership status of Romania and Hungary.
