Abstract. The impact of mining activities on the relief and the consequential geomorphological risk. As it is well known, the extraction of mineral substances of economic interest (even if they are solids, liquids or gases) is often proceeded by using aggressive methods that generate movements of huge rock masses and certain modifications of the existant natural relief. We assist at a peculiar type of morphogenesis through mining that consists in residual forms like craters, holes, galleries, quarries, scratched surfaces and in constructed forms as well as artificial mounds made of sterile materials. Moreover, during the mining activities and also after they cease, subsidence, rock fallings, mud flows, linear erosion are specific and very active processes in the affected areas. All these induce a disequilibrium state in the system that leads to various and frequent risk phenomena. The rehabilitation of such geomorphic landscape imposes detailed studies and adequate local / regional planning measures.
